Dead Cells is a 2D action game for Android developed by Playdigious. The story follows a Prisoner's journey to recover his memories, set in a mysterious area on an island filled with monsters. The game begins in the Prisoner's Quarter, where an unidentified object falls from above and combines with a motionless corpse. You then control the newly created character to explore what is believed to be an abandoned castle occupied by monsters carrying different weapons.
The game uses a retro graphical style and focuses on frantic 2D combat. As you move through new locations, the story continues to unlock. The island setting changes over time, and the areas you pass through resemble a large castle with different sections covered with enemies.
Gameplay and Combat
Combat in Dead Cells involves facing enemies with various weapons and powerful bosses that require careful attention because of their attack mechanisms. The game features an impressive skill system, with attack methods corresponding to each type of enemy encountered. By using a variety of mechanics, you can create interesting combinations that increase your strength.
Each time you go through a stage, your strength increases many times over. You can attack enemies to level up your power quickly and collect in-game items. There are no specific requirements to unlock new environments, and you will spend a lot of time traveling to new locations.
Progression and Saving
Progress in Dead Cells is only approved when you complete a stage. If you die, the number of items in the game can be reset. To make equipment permanent, you should complete the level. A merchant trades with you using a strange currency system called Cells.
Bosses require high concentration because you must understand how they move and respond appropriately. This combat cycle repeats over and over, requiring skill. Players can choose difficulty before starting and can take advantage of respawn opportunities to advance. Progress is continuously saved, and new levels and secrets become increasingly visible.
DLC Expansions
DLC adds content that keeps players interested in the main character's story and journey since waking up in the Prisoner's Quarter. DLC can be seen as additional content that brings completely new feelings. Alternative endings appear in DLCs because of a parallel story, offering newly created endings instead of only the original ones. New powers are unlocked in many impressive levels, creating opportunities to fight powerful bosses on each floor. Although the controls are not too challenging, choosing a strategy is extremely important to victory.
